Description
Replacing the rod bearings on the S65 engine in the E92/E90 M3 is an essential preventative maintenance task, as the S65 shares similar rod bearing wear issues with its predecessor, the S54. Over time, the rod bearings can degrade due to stress from high-performance driving, frequent high RPMs, and poor factory bearing material, leading to reduced oil pressure, increased friction, and the potential for catastrophic engine failure. If left unaddressed, this can result in severe damage to the crankshaft, rods, and other critical components. Given the S65’s higher-revving nature and the high-performance demands placed on it, replacing the rod bearings at a recommended interval—usually around 60,000 to 100,000 miles—can significantly improve engine reliability, prevent costly repairs, and extend the life of the engine, making it a smart and cost-effective investment for maintaining the performance and longevity of the M3.
